Charlie's Call to Duty ("we," "us," or "our") is a nonprofit in Johnson County, Kansas. We rescue dogs at risk of euthanasia and train them as service and therapy dogs. This policy explains what information we collect through charliescalltoduty.org, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We only collect what you choose to share with us, plus the basic technical information any website needs to work.
- We use it to reply to you and to keep you updated about our programs.
- We never sell, rent, or trade your information.
- You can ask us to stop contacting you, or to delete your information, at any time.
Information you give us
- Email updates. Your email address, when you sign up to hear from us.
- Interest forms. When you tell us you're interested in fostering, volunteering, our service dog program, or partnering with us, we collect your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), city, and your answers to the form's questions. For example, whether you have a fenced yard, or which volunteer roles interest you. The partner form also asks for your organization's name and your role.
- Messages. Anything you send us by email, phone, or text.
Health information. We don't ask for medical details or diagnoses on this website, and we ask you not to include them. If you share health information with us anyway, we'll keep it confidential and use it only to respond to you. When our service dog program opens, any health information an application needs will be collected separately, with your permission, and kept in a restricted file.
Background checks. Some volunteer roles, like those involving service or therapy dog placements, require a background check. We'll explain what's involved and ask for your written permission first. We never run background checks through this website.
Information collected automatically
- Website hosting. Our site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit, so it can deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
- Spam protection. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a real person is sending them. Turnstile may look at information about your browser and device to do this.
- Fonts. Our pages use fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers to download them.
- Your browser's storage. If you close our sign-up pop-up or sign up for updates, your browser saves a small note so we don't keep showing you the pop-up. It stays on your device, and you can clear it in your browser settings.
We don't use advertising cookies, analytics trackers, or tracking pixels.
How we use your information
- To reply to your questions and interest, and to contact you when programs open.
- To send you the updates you signed up for.
- To plan our programs, for example to see where foster homes are needed.
- To keep our website secure and prevent spam and fraud.
- To meet our legal obligations.
How we share information
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers that help us run the charity, and only what they need to do that work. Microsoft 365 stores our email and form responses, and Cloudflare hosts our website and protects our forms from spam.
- With your permission, for example if you ask us to introduce you to a partner shelter or trainer.
- When the law requires it, or when needed to protect the safety of people or animals.
- If our organization changes, for example if we merge with another nonprofit. Your information would stay protected under this policy.
Text messages
If you give us your phone number and choose a phone call or text as the best way to reach you, you agree that we may call or text you about your request. Here's what to expect:
- We'll only text you about your request or a program you've asked about. We don't send marketing texts.
- How often we text depends on your request. Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to any text and we'll stop texting you. Reply HELP, or email [email protected], for help.
- We never share your phone number, or your permission to text you, with anyone for their marketing.
You can stop getting emails from us at any time. Use our unsubscribe page, or reply "unsubscribe" to any email from us.
How we protect and keep information
Form responses and emails are kept in our Microsoft 365 account, and only the people who need them can see them. Sensitive records, like completed applications, are kept in a separate restricted area. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
We keep information only as long as we need it for the reasons above. If you ask us to stop contacting you, we'll mark your record so we don't contact you again.
Your choices
- Stop emails: use our unsubscribe page, or reply "unsubscribe" to any email from us.
- Stop texts: reply STOP to any text from us.
- See, correct, or delete your information: email [email protected]. We'll reply within 30 days.
Children
Our website is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Other websites
Our site may link to other websites, like social media or partner organizations. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our programs grow, for example when we start accepting donations. We'll change the date at the top of this page when we do.
